Fleeting and short-lived, like human life itself, the flax flower is a symbol of remembrance for the victims of the genocide committed against the Polish inhabitants of Volhynia and Eastern Galicia, known as the Volhynia Massacre.

The celebrations of the National Day of Remembrance of Poles – Victims of Genocide committed by the OUN and UPA in the eastern territories of the Second Polish Republic were part of the Borderlands Heritage Festival, partnered by the Institute of War Losses.

As part of the festival, a meeting was held at the Borderlands Museum with Dr Damian K. Markowski (a researcher from the Institute of War Losses), discussing, among other things, the losses resulting from the aforementioned genocide. The conversation was moderated by Dr Piotr Olechowski from the IWL.
