A historical and educational lecture entitled ‘The potential of Polish military aviation in the Second Republic and its prospects for development in 1935-1939’. It was another event in the series ‘Shadows of War. Meetings about losses and memory’, organised by the Institute of War Losses.
During the Second Polish Republic, there was a keen awareness of the growing importance of military aviation. This was demonstrated, among other things, by the war with the Bolsheviks.
Within the limits of the capabilities of the reborn Polish state, efforts were made to introduce the production of increasingly modern combat aircraft, among which the PZL.37 ‘Łoś’ medium bomber was a source of particular pride.
The ambitions of the pre-war Polish Army decision-makers were considerable in this respect, and modernisation programmes envisaged the continuous development of this type of weaponry. The history of these projects, the production facilities created for them, and the development prospects that were never realised due to the war were presented by an expert in this field, Dr Marcin Paluch, a lecturer at the Military University of Aviation in Dęblin.
