Yesterday, 17 September 2025, a mural commemorating Captain Stanisław Pieniążek, a Polish Army officer murdered by the Soviets in Katyn in the spring of 1940, was unveiled. The mural is located on the wall of the sports hall of the Primary School in Dębów, Podkarpackie Province.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of local authorities, the hero's family and numerous guests. The blessing of the mural by Father Jan Szaro, the cutting of the ribbon and the laying of wreaths were special moments of the ceremony. The speeches by Captain Pieniążek's descendants and the display of family memorabilia were also very moving.

During the ceremony, commemorative letters from Secretary of State Jakub Stefaniak, Head of the Office for War Veterans and Victims of Oppression Lech Parell, and Director of the Jan Karski Institute of War Losses Dr Bartosz Gondek were read out, emphasising the importance of this noble initiative.
