On 10 June 1942, in retaliation for the killing of Reinhard Heidrich, the Germans burnt down the village buildings. 192 men were murdered in the village, while 60 women and 88 children were taken to concentration camps and did not live to see liberation. The Germans demolished the ruins, then ploughed the village area, wiping it out.
