MEETING IN GREECE - CHAIRMAN OF THE JAN KARSKI INSTITUTE COUNCIL, DEPUTY MINISTER ARKADIUSZ MULARCZYK

On 14-15 February, Deputy Minister Arkadiusz Mularczyk travelled to Athens, where he met with Greek politicians and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic. In addition to the current issues of European diplomacy related to the war in Ukraine and the earthquake in Turkey, the topics of the speeches and political meetings concerned war reparations.

The Deputy Foreign Minister recalled that he had been to Athens five years ago and, at that time, had read a report on the war losses suffered by Greece during the Second World War. During the meeting, the Report on the Losses Sustained by Poland as a Result of German Aggression and Occupation during the Second World War was presented to Greek politicians. Deputy Minister Arkadiusz Mularczyk outlined the steps taken by Poland in obtaining war reparations. He also highlighted the unjust nature of international legal regulations which allow the possibility to apply for individual reparations to citizens of certain countries, while excluding other European citizens who have suffered damage from equal access to legal paths to seek redress.

Deputy Minister Mularczyk invited the Greeks to cooperate politically, diplomatically and educationally on the issue of war reparations, which, due to the scale of the German occupation, are due to both Poles and Greeks.
