LECTURE BY THE DIRECTOR OF THE JAN KARSKI INSTITUTE OF WAR LOSSES IN ZAKOPANE ON "POLISH LOSSES SUFFERED DUE TO GERMANY DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR"
On 21 April 2023, the Director of the Jan Karski Institute for War Losses, Prof Konrad Wnęk, held a lecture entitled 'Poland's losses due to Germany during World War II' at the Zakopane Cultural Centre, in the Wł. hr. Zamoyski Municipal Art Gallery.
During the lecture, the Director recalled the tragic events that happened during the war and talked about the enormity of the following losses:
- demographic,
- material,
- in cultural goods and works of art,
- in banking and insurance,
- State Treasury, and
- GDP,
incurred by Poland during the Second World War on the part of Germany.
The Director's speech was also given to the laureates of the Inter-school Recitation Contest of Poetry by Women Prisoners of the Ravensbrück Concentration Camp - "It was only too soon that suffering touched me". organised for the seventh time by the Pedagogical Provincial Library in Nowy Sącz. The competition was co-organised by the Zakopane Town Hall, and the event was held under the honorary patronage of the Marshal of the Malopolska Region, Witold Kozłowski.
