REQUIEM: IN MEMORY OF POLISH COMPOSERS - KIELCE
On Sunday 19 February, Polska Fundacja Promocji Kultury Muzycznej (the Polish Foundation for the Promotion of Musical Culture) organised a concert called "Requiem: in memory of Polish composers". Works by Józef Koffler and Roman Padlewski, composers who died during World War II, were played.
Józef Koffler was shot by the Germans, probably at the beginning of 1944, near Krosno where he had been hiding for several months after the Wieliczka ghetto was liquidated (he had been held there since the summer of 1941). Roman Padlewski, who fought in the Warsaw Uprising, died on 16 August 1944, as a result of wounds received in combat.
The concert took place at the Ludomir Różycki Music School in Kielce.
The event was held under the honorary patronage of the Director of the Jan Karski Institute of War Losses, Dr. (hab.) Konrad Wnęk, Professor at the Jagiellonian University.
Directed by Agnieszka Środowska, the symphony orchestra performed a piano concerto composed of three movements by Józef Koffler. In turn, the performance of the piece 'Stabat Mater', i.e. the last, pre-war work by Roman Padlewski, was performed by the Luna Plena Choir under the baton of Barbara Gajek-Kraski. Also performing on stage were Łukasz Chrzęszczyk, a graduate of the Kielce Music School, and Karolina Gajda's string quartet.
